Example template usage for copy-pasting:

{{importance example|date=December 2024}}

{{importance example|date=December 2024|reason=Provide reason here}}

Summary

Inline notation for marking specific instances that may be self-sourcing examples, instead of marking entire articles or sections with {{refexample}} or {{example farm}}.

Usage

This template is used in articles to identify an example that may not have any sources, or that has sources that fall under self-sourcing examples in popular culture. It produces a superscripted notation like the following:

You may replace the default tooltip reason with |reason=:

Adding this template to an article places the article into Category:All articles lacking reliable references or a dated subcategory thereof, part of a family of categories identifying articles with reliable-sourcing issues. To find all such articles, see Category:CAPipediaarticles with sourcing issues.

When not to use

Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced should be removed immediately. Do not tag it: remove it. For more information, see the section on contentious material in the Biography of Living Persons policy.

Material which is doubtful and harmful may be removed immediately, rather than tagged. See Unsourced material.

If no citation is given, you should use the {{Citation needed}} tag in conjunction with this tag.

If you have the time and ability to find a better reference, please do so. Then correct the citation yourself, or correct the article text. After all, the ultimate goal is not to merely identify problems, but to fix them.
