This document describes the various badges that Cadets and Senior Members can earn in their respective Program. Original document was written by -C/1st Lt. Eli Rosin
NOTE: This is NOT an official document. The decision on whether these checklists may apply or not is up to your Squadron, Wing, Region, or National commander. DO NOT use this as a replacement for the official resources in which these are founded. This document is designed to have each checklist able to be printed out individually.

Recommendations were added to guide cadets toward successful paths relating to the badge that is statistically proven successful in CAP. Refer to the CAPR 39-1 for more information on how to wear the badges.

Solo Badge: The solo badge is a uniform indication that the CAP member has completed the required training to be a CAP rated Solo pilot. To receive the Solo Badge, complete the following on this checklist:

Recommendation to cadets: If you are interested in receiving the solo badge, apply to a solo flight academy. This NCSA will give you the recommended path in receiving a solo pilot rating. For more information, go to ncsas.com and look into any of them. Along with that, follow the Cadet wings program guide to receive the private pilot certificate. The last recommendation is that you join different aviation programs, for example:
Pre-Solo Badge: The pre-solo badge is a uniform indication that the CAP member has completed a pre-solo flight. To receive the Pre-Solo Badge, complete the following on this checklist:

This badge can only be earned based on the requirements of your Certified Flight Instructor. Refer to him/her for more information on how to receive this badge.
Recommendation to cadets: Focus on receiving the Solo badge rather than this because the Solo is an official rating with more experience involved.
Cadet Model Rocketry Badge: The Cadet Model Rocketry Badge is a uniform indication that the cadet has completed the basic model rocketry program curriculum. To receive the Cadet Model Rocketry Badge, complete the following on this checklist:

Each of these must be logged in by an Aerospace Education Member or Qualified Senior Member. For more information about earning this badge or the modules required to complete, refer to Civil Air Patrol, Model rocketry.
Recommendation to cadets: Many states have an encampment option to receive this badge, so look into your local encampment. Also, you may contact your Aerospace officer and request information on working towards earning the badge. If you’re interested in advancing your education in model rocketry, complete the advanced rocketry courses on LMS/ AXIS LMS, and look into contact with your local NAR chapter.
Cadet Cyber Badge: The Cadet Cyber Badge is a uniform indication that the cadet has completed specific objectives that fall under the Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Cyber Badge.
To receive the Cadet Cyber Badge(Basic), complete the following on this checklist:

Serve as an instructor, tutor, or assistant coach for a CyberPatriot team or during activities in relation to teaching the squadron the curriculum from CAP Introduction to CyberSecurity for 30 hours(cumulative). Alternatively, complete CDTA, Advanced Cyberspace Familiarization course. | |
Complete a high school (or higher) course in computer science, information assurance, or cybersecurity. Alternatively, obtain an industry-standard information security certification such as the CompTIA Security +, or (ISC)² SSCP - Systems Security Certified Practitioner. | |
Provide 10 hours of IT service to CAP or another organization. Alternatively, design an application, administer Moodle courseware or other learning management systems, or complete a similar scope and complexity project. |
Each of the badge requirements must be logged by either the AEO or CEO of the squadron. For more information on these badges and how to earn them, please refer to CAPP 60-41.
Recommendation to cadets: Ask your AEO or CEO for guidance towards earning the badge. Going to Cyber Defense Training Academy will qualify you for the basic badge and give you much experience towards the intermediate badge, so it is recommended to apply it. Apply for local or online IT/Cybersecurity courses to familiarize yourself with the curriculum of CAP Introduction to CyberSecurity. Here are a few examples:
Cadet STEM Badge: The Cadet STEM Badge is a uniform indication that the cadet has completed specific objectives that fall under the Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced STEM Badge.

The AEO of the squadron must log each of the badge requirements. For more information on these badges and how to earn them, please refer to CAPP 60-41.
Recommendation to cadets: Because the badge requirements are much more flexible, it is recommended that you contact your AEO for guidance towards earning the badge. Also, contact your AEO on information regarding your squadron’s STEM kits’ logistics to help deepen your understanding of the STEM program.
NRA marksmanship badge: The NRA marksmanship badge is a uniform indication that shows the cadet has earned either a Basic or Pro marksman rating defined by the NRA. (You can only wear one).
To receive the NRA marksmanship badge(basic), complete the following on this checklist:

Senior Pilot: The Senior pilot rating badge is a uniform indication that the member has met several intermediate requirements in the CAP flight program. To receive the Senior Pilot Rating Badge, complete the following tasks:

Command Pilot: The Command pilot rating badge is a uniform indication that the member has met several advanced CAP flight program requirements. To receive the Command Pilot Rating Badge, complete the following tasks:

Senior Observer: The Senior Observer rating badge is a uniform indication that the member is qualified to do intermediate Mission Observer tasks. To receive the Senior Observer rating badge, complete the following tasks:

Master Observer: The Master Observer rating badge is a uniform indication that the member is qualified to do advanced Mission Observer tasks. To receive the Master Observer rating badge, complete the following tasks:

Administration: Divided into three different ratings, the Administration specialty track is a way for Civil Air Patrol to measure the level of advancement a Senior Member has in their respective administration working environment.
To receive the Administration Technician rating, complete the following tasks:

Have the ability to efficiently access any current form of regulation, either in print or or electronically. | |
Have someone not rated in administration use a file plan you created or updated to locate some object in the files. | |
Produce your file of pending reports and a 90-day log that shows you have reminded the appropriate staff of upcoming due dates. | |

Serve as a unit administrative officer or director of administration or assistant for 18 months since receiving your senior rating in administration. | |
Serve as administrative officer or assistant at the group or higher for six months or more (may include in or be concurrent with the 18 months above) or provide administrative assistance at a multi-unit activity lasting 40 hours or more, preferably in a cadet program or an aerospace activity or become rated in the administrative function according to ICS standards. | |
Successfully complete the online CAPP 205 test for the master rating. |

Character Development: Divided into three different ratings, the Character Development specialty track is a way for Civil Air Patrol to measure the level of advancement a Senior Member has in their respective Character Development working environment.
To receive the Character Development Technician rating badge, complete the following tasks:

Identify the policies and possible tasks of non-clergy support. | |
Present, to the satisfaction of your mentor or OJT supervisor, at least four character development lessons to cadets. | |
Correctly complete and submit to your wing chaplain one CAPF 34-CDI on your activities. | |

Successfully complete six months active service as a CDI. | |

To receive the Character Development Senior rating badge, complete the following tasks:

Communication Senior: The second level of the Communication Specialty track, this badge indicates the ability for the senior member to complete intermediate level Communication Tasks. To receive this badge, complete the following tasks:

Explain each of the thirteen knowledge and proficiency items above to the OJT Supervisor. | |
Demonstrate the ability to search, transfer, assign, issue / return, add, and retire communications equipment in ORMS. | |
Pass the Senior Level Communications Officer Test. | |
Attend a minimum of two group, wing or region sanctioned communications meetings, conducted IAW CAPR 100-1. The meeting required for the Communications Officer Technician level may count as one of the meetings. | |
Participate in at least three communications exercises sanctioned by wing or higher headquarters, or any combination thereof. | |
Participate in at least three operational or training missions(8 hours minimum per mission) in a communications capacity with at least one as CUL/trainee. | |
Complete Level 2 of the Senior Member Professional Development Program. | |
Serve as a net control for a minimum of two nets. Show OJT Supervisor net logs for Verification. | |

Compose a Communications plan IAW CAPR 100-1, or an ICS 205 with at least 8 line entries that is acceptable to the OJT Supervisor. | |

Communication Master: The third level of the Communication Specialty track, this badge indicates the ability for the senior member to complete advanced level Communication Tasks. To receive this badge, complete the following tasks:

Provide the OJT supervisor with the documentation (copy of sign-in roster, log sheets properly annotated, ICS 205, etc.; be careful to consider OPSEC concerns) for proof of participation as CUL. | |
Plan and instruct one communications training class at any level. Provide OJT Supervisor with the class plan and roster of students attending. | |
Conduct one communications meeting at any level. Provide OJT Supervisor with the meeting plan and roster of members attending. | |

This NCSA will give you the recommended path in receiving a glider pilot certificate. For more information, go to ncsas.com and look into any of them. Also, look into joining your local SSA chapter, many of them have reduced price options for receiving flight instruction for cadets.
Balloon Pilot: The balloon pilot badge is a uniform indication that the CAP member is a currently rated CAP balloon pilot. To receive the Balloon Pilot Badge, complete the following on this checklist:

The IS courses can be found on the FEMA EMI course listing online. The ICS-300 can be found in your state jurisdictional website. For example, the website for texas is preparingtexas.org. GES, ICUT, and CAPT 117 can be found on AXIS LMS. ICUT requires an in-person test; this can usually be taken during GT training.
Communications Technician Rating: The Communications Badge is a specialty track badge that indicates the member’s interest in CAP communications through the different levels of communications skills. This is represented by the Technician, Senior, and Master track rating; however, cadets can only earn the technician badge. The official rating can only be given to the cadet upon becoming a senior member. To receive the Communications Badge(Technician), complete the following on this checklist:

Emergency Services Technician Rating: The Emergency Services Badge is a specialty track badge that indicates the member’s interest in the CAP emergency services program through the different levels of emergency services rated skills. This is represented by the Technician, Senior, and Master track rating; however, cadets can only earn the technician badge. The official rating can only be given to the cadet upon becoming a senior member. To receive the Emergency Services Badge(Technician), complete the following on this checklist:
