Jose Moran Urena is a high school student and aviation enthusiast. He is a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol and holds the rank of Cadet Master Sergeant. He is affiliated with the New York Wing and has participated in cadet leadership development, aerospace education, and introductory emergency services training.[2]

Early life and education

Moran Urena attends Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers, New York, where he studies electronics and computing systems. He is also dual-enrolled with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University through its Worldwide program, which offers aviation-focused academic pathways.[3]

Civil Air Patrol career

Moran Urena joined the Civil Air Patrol in 2024 and progressed to the rank of Cadet Master Sergeant.[3] Within the New York Wing, Moran Urena was interviewed on Wreaths Across America Radio as part of a “Meet the Civil Air Patrol” feature.[2] He completed powered orientation flights through CAP’s cadet aviation programs,[4] participated in the CAP/NASA 2025 Aviation Weather Mission, and was selected for the annual National Legislative Day, held virtually. He also conducted a recruitment event at his high school alongside a Cadet Chief Master Sergeant.[5]

Aviation activities

Moran Urena participates in the online flight simulation community VATSIM, where he takes part in virtual flight operations and aviation training events. Through CAP participation and independent study, he has gained exposure to introductory flight training and has expressed interest in pursuing a private pilot certificate.[4]
