Most CAP mailing lists are created using a regular feed of data about members made available by National Headquarters CAP - the feed is called CAPWATCH.

Each unit in Civil Air Patrol must use the central feed in order to create and maintain their mailing lists independently. In other words, your squadron has its own mailing lists, COWG has their own mailing lists, RMR has their own mailing lists, UTWG has their own mailing lists, and NHQ has their own mailing lists. From time to time, when RMR sends out emails, people reply to the sender and say 'please unsubscribe me'...but most of the time, that's not the right way to get less mail.

If you really wish to be removed from email lists, please check the 'do not contact' box associated with your eServices primary email address. The 'do not contact' checkbox is available in CAPWATCH and, although it's not mandatory for units to honor the checkbox, most of the units I know honor it. It's really the only way to tell everyone you want to stop receiving emails from CAP.

To click the 'do not contact' checkbox:

  1. Log in to eServices
  2. Go to your name (if using a desktop browser) or the two gear icons (if using a mobile browser) in the upper-right corner of eServices
  3. Click "Contacts"
  4. Under "Current Contacts", you most likely have a contact of type "Email" and priority "Primary". If you scroll all the way to the right of that line, you will see an "Edit" button.
  5. Click the "Edit" button on the far right of the row which is associated with your primary email address. The second-to-last column is called 'Do Not Contact'.
  6. Click the 'YES' checkbox in the 'Do Not Contact' column
  7. Click the "Update" link on the far right of the row which is associated with your primary email address.

Please note: checking the 'do not contact' box will opt you out of most Civil Air Patrol communications, possibly including important communications from your squadron, wing, region, or national headquarters. If you wish to be opted out of only RMR communications, please contact it@rmr.cap.gov.
