Note: the word "invalid" here is used in the zoological sense, not the botanical sense. See valid name (zoology) and validly published name (botany) for more information.

Use

{{Cleanup taxon|concern=Your explanation here|date=November 2024}}

This template may be added to taxon articles (articles about species, genera, or other organisms) if the nomenclature is questionable otherwise may not be accepted. If a taxon is unquestionably hosted at the wrong article title, please simply be bold and move it to the accepted name rather than use this template.

Associated category

Articles tagged with this template are added to the cleanup category Category:Taxa that may be invalid.

History

As of January 2019, this template has primarily (only?) been added to gastropod articles by the bot Ganeshbot. The source of the information is the World Register of Marine Species, which categorizes taxa as accepted, unaccepted, nomen dubium, nomen nudum, temporary name, taxon inquirendum, interim unpublished, or uncertain. The template has been added to the articles within several families of gastropods if its status on WoRMS is anything other than "accepted" or "alternate representation".

See WikiProject_Gastropods#Cleanup template for Invalid (unaccepted) taxon for more background and discussion.
