==Usage==

This is an inline template used to flag statements with self-published sources such as a personal web page or a self-published book, which, due to the lack of oversight on such works, are therefore potentially unreliable.

When the template is added to a line of text in an article, the resulting clean-up tag links to the relevant policy page and section: [[WP:Verifiability#Self-published sources|Wikipedia:Verifiability § Self-published sources]]. (While [[WP:Identifying reliable sources#Self-published sources|Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources § Self-published sources]] and [[WP:Neutral point of view]] are also relevant, the template does not create a link to them.)

This template categorizes its tagged articles into the [[WP:PROJCATS|maintenance category]], [[:Category:All articles with self-published sources]], which is [[Help:Hidden category|hidden]] in [[Wikipedia:Mainspace|mainspace]] articles by a default setting in the user preferences. A logged-in user may view this and all other hidden categories by checking Show hidden categories on the Appearance tab of [[Special:Preferences|Preferences]].

To flag an individual citation itself as being to such a questionable source, use [[Template:Self-published source]], {{em|inside}} of {{tag|ref}}. For whole sections or articles, use [[Template:Self-published]].
